Lot #1. SULPHIDE. . One of the largest sulphides that I have ever seen. And it is Mint!!! Figure of a standing elephant. Slightly above average detail to the figure. Well-centered. One side has an air bubble. The optical effect makes it appear that there is a baby elephant next to the adult in the marble. The glass has a slight greenish tint to it, but this is only because it is so thick. Has two very tiny subsurface moons, but you hardly notice them. 2-1/2". Mint(-) (9.0). Lot #4. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a running horse. Excellent detail to the figure. Well-centered. No air bubbles. Lot #6. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a reclining lamb. Well detailed. Marble surface has been polished. 1-11/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $55-$110. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #7. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a standing donkey. Figure is a little small for the marble. Set slightly high. Air bubble on one side. Average detail. Marble surface has been polished. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $95.

 

Lot #8. SULPHIDE. . Hard to find figure of bathing girl. Nice sized figure, well-centered. Above average detail, however there is some shallow air bubbling in the spaces on the three dimensional figure. But, you can see the washcloth she is holding in both hands as well as the detail of her face. One small flake, a couple of pits and some rubbing on the surface. Still, human figures are hard to find. Germany, circa 1870-1915. 1-11/16". Near Mint (8.3). Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Final Bid: $235.

 

Lot #9. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a begging dog. Average detail. Figure is set off to one side. Small air bubble on the right hand side of the figure. The marble has been polished. 1-9/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $80-$175. Final Bid: $75.

 

Lot #10. SULPHIDE. . Figure of the numeral #3. Well centered figure. There are some dings and chips, as well as overall scratching and haziness. 1-5/8". Near Mint(-) (8.1). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $140.

 

Lot #11. SULPHIDE. . Figure of the numeral #2. The figure is set slightly high in the marble. Some air bubbling. The surface has some pits and cloudiness. 1-9/16". Near Mint (8.3). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $140.

 

Lot #12. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a cantering horse. Figure is welldetailed and set slightly forward and high in the marble. There is a small air bubble near the bottom of the marble, but it is not near the figure. Surface has a couple of tiny pits and one sparkle. 1-7/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Lot #13. SULPHIDE. . Figure of standing dog. Excellent detail to the figure. Set slightly forward in the marble. Surface has been polished and the remnants of a couple of subsurface moons remain. 1-1/2". Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #14. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a fish. Large, well-detailed figure that fills the marble. Large air bubble below the fish. Surface has been buffed, but the pontil is intact. 1-7/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $65-$130. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #15. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a man, possibly an apeman, standing with his right hand on his belly and his left at his side. Poor detail. Set slightly off center. No air bubbles. Small cold roll line on the front and a blown out air hole on the back. No damage. 1-3/8". Mint(9.4). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $90.

Lot #17. SULPHIDE. . Base glass is dark amber. The figure is a standing ram. Figure is well centered. Excellent detail. There are many very tiny air bubbles in the glass. The surface is original, but has light overall scratching. 1-3/8". Near Mint (8.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1100-$2200. Final Bid: $750.

 

Lot #18. SULPHIDE. . Numeral #2. Excellent figure with no air bubble. It is almost impossible to find this with no air bubble. The surface has a large chip (on the back), tiny chips and subsurface moons. Overall haziness from a really bad buff job.Needs a good buff and you'll have a nice marble. 1-7/16". Lot #19. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a reclining dog on a grass mound. The dog has a collar. Excellent detail, but a small air bubble on each side. Polished. 1-7/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $60-$125. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #20. SULPHIDE. . Small sulphide. Figure of a walking bear, head turned. Excellent three dimensional figure. Excellent detail to the figure. Well centered. No air bubbles. Surface has just a couple of very light scratches. Super marble. 1-1/4". Mint (9.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $180.

 

Lot #21. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a begging bear. Small figure. Set off-center. Tiny air bubble on one side. Base glass of the marble is very lightly tinted ice blue. One small chip and one tiny chip on the bottom. Interesting tinted glass. 1-3/16". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $60.

 

Lot #22. SULPHIDE. . One of the smallest sulphides I have ever seen. Figure of a bear on all fours. Excellent detail to the figure, set slightly forward. Marble has a tiny moon on the top, three small subsurface moons (none in front or behind the figure, either on the top or the side), and a couple of tiny pits. Usually, you find these tiny ones in much worse shape. 27/32'". Near Mint (8.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Final Bid: $160.

 

Lot #23. SWIRL. Solid core. Opaque white core with transparent blue bands on it. Outer layer is three transparent red and opaque yellow bands alternating with three transparent blue and opaque white bands. Large chip on one side, several smaller chips, some pits and overall light haze. 2-3/8". Near Mint(-) (8.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $170.

 

Lot #24. SWIRL. Divided core. Four band core. Two each of two alternating complementary color schemes. Very nice. Outer layer is a cage of yellow strands. A couple of tiny rough spots, a couple of tiny subsurface moons and some sparkles. Very nice looking marble and large.2" (1/64" under). Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $110-$225. Lot #25. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band divided core. Each band is opaque white with three bands of transparent dark blue. Outer layer is six bands of transparent red on opaque white. Perfect spacing in the outer layer and the core. All bands at each level are the same size as the others in that layer. Surface has some small and tiny chips and flakes. Large marble. 2-1/16". Near Mint(-) (8.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $150.

 

Lot #26. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band core. Each band is white with blue and pink bands. Outer layer is a cage of white strands. Surface has a small chip, small subsurface moon and overall scratching. 1-7/8". Near Mint (8.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $145.

 

Lot #27. SWIRL. Divided core. Four band core. Each band is a different color scheme. Outer layer is two sets of yellow strands, alternating with two sets of white. One small chip and overall tiny pits. 1-3/4". Near Mint(-) (8.1). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #28. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Exceptional example of a double ribbon core swirl, in remarkable shape. Two ribbons are opaque white with bands of pink, blue, yellow and green. Outstanding pattern. Outer layer is a cage of four orange strands alternating with four white strands. Excellent design and the execution is superb and very symmetrical. Surface is in pristine shape. You will not find a much better example. Unbelievable that it survived in this condition in this size. 1-13/16". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $400-$800. Final Bid: $642.

 

Lot #29. SWIRL. Solid core. Three layer solid core swirl. Opaque white core. Middle layer is four bands. Two transparent pink, alternating with a transparent blue and a transparent green. Outer layer is four sets of yellow strands. The surface has a couple of tiny pinpricks and some very light wear. There are two small annealing fractures within the marble. 1-11/16". Mint(-) (9.0). Lot #30. SWIRL. Solid core. Lobed solid core swirl. Opaque yellow core. Three very deep lobes. There is transparent pink with opaque white on each lobe peak and transparent green in each lobe trough. Outer layer is a cage of white strands. Overall subsurface moons, light pitting and an "orange peel" texture. 1-7/8". Good (7.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #31. SWIRL. Divided core. Four band core. The core is very fat. Two bands are pink surrounded by green, on yellow. Two are pink surrounded by blue on white. Outer layer is one yellow strand, one white strand and one set of three yellow strands. The marble is from near the end of a cane. Surface has one small moon and one tiny subsurface moon. 1-3/4". Near Mint(+) (8.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $170.

 

Lot #32. SWIRL. Solid core. Three layer solid core swirl. Opaque white core. Transparent pink bands floating above the core. Outer layer is a cage of translucent yellow strands. Two small subsurface moons on one side, with a sparkle. Otherwise, no damage on the marble. 1-9/16". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $120.

 

Lot #33. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Orange latticinio core swirl. From near an end of the cane. Part of the core is missing. Outer layer is three red bands alternating with three blue and white. Lot #34. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band core. Each is a different complementary pattern of opaque white, dark blue and/or transparent pink. Outer layer is three sets of three white strands. Lot #35. SWIRL. Solid core. Four panels, each the same size. Two are pink on white, one is green on white, one is blue on white. Outer layer is four sets of yellow strands, mirroring the border of each inner band. Several small subsurface moons and some sparkles. Very pretty marble. 1-1/2". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Lot #36. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Unusual coloring. The base glass is tinted light blue. The core is orange latticinio strands. The outer layer is six sets of blue bands on white. Lot #41. SWIRL. Gooseberry. One of the largest gooseberries I have ever seen. Translucent honey brown base with thirteen subsurface opaque white strands. Has a couple of white strands in the core. Lot #42. SWIRL. Solid core. Very, very rare marble. . Basically, this is the end of the cane that was taken and folding over to create a marble. Single pontil. This one is an absolute beauty. Transparent clear base with a subsurface loop of opaque white, transparent green and transparent red. Very hard to describe, so be sure to look at the picture. This one has been polished, although the pontil remains. 1-3/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $400-$800. Final Bid: $490.

 

Lot #43. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Very, very rare marble. Basically, this is the end of the cane that was taken and folding over to create a marble. Single pontil. This one is an absolute beauty. Transparent clear base with loops of opaque white, transparent green, transparent blue and transparent red. Very hard to describe, so be sure to look at the picture. Lot #48. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Double ribbon core swirl. Bright English colors. One ribbon is bright yellow and red. The other is bright white and blue. Outer layer is one band of white strands and one band of yellow strands, mirroring the ribbon edges. One tiny melt spot. No damage. A beauty. 29/32". Mint (9.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Lot #59. SWIRL. Peppermint. Shooter size. Transparent clear base. Subsurface layer of opaque white with four bands of transparent pink and two wide bands of transparent pink. One large manufacturing melt spot near the bottom. 25/32". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $80.

 

Lot #60. SWIRL. Peppermint. Beach ball type. Transparent clear base. Subsurface layer of white. Two bands of transparent pink and two of transparent blue. One of the blue is missing the underlying white, so it looks darker. One manufacturing melt spot and a few sparkles. 3/4". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $60-$125. Final Bid: $75.

 

Lot #61. SWIRL. Peppermint with mica. Rare peppermint with mica. Transparent clear base. Subsurface layer of white, six pink bands and two wide blue bands. The blue bands have mica on them. The surface has been polished (pontils remain) and there is still the remnant of one small chip. 21/32". Pre-Sale Estimate: $225-$450. Final Bid: $200.

 

Lot #62. SWIRL. Assorted core. Lot of two marbles. One is a divided core swirl, 3/4", Mint (9.7). The other is a coreless swirl, 3/4", Mint (9.7). Nice Mint pair. Pre-Sale Estimate: $35-$70. Final Bid: $35.

 

Lot #63. SWIRL. Solid core. Lot of two marbles. Very unusual pair of naked solid core swirls. At first glance they look like a matched pair, but they are subtlely different. Each is naked. One has a core of four orange bands, four white bands and four transparent lavender bands, all alternating. 19/32". Mint (9.9). The other is a set of orange, white and lavender bands, repeating four times. 19/32". Mint (9.9). Very subtle pair!!! Pre-Sale Estimate: $60-$125. Final Bid: $70.

 

Lot #64. SWIRL. Banded. Lot of three marbles. Nice set of peewee banded swirls. One is transparent clear with three white and yellow bands. One is transparent blue with white bands. The last is transparent very light blue with white strands. All are 15/32". All are Mint. Pre-Sale Estimate: $60-$125. Final Bid: $95.

 

Lot #65. SWIRL. Assorted core. Lot of thirty six marbles. Assorted latticinio core, divided core and solid core. Everything has some damage, from slight to significant (although only a couple I would term as having significant damage). 19/32" to 7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9) to Good(-) (7.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $210.

 

Lot #66. SWIRL. Assorted. Lot of twenty four marbles. Assortment of cores, designs and colors. All have damage. 19/32" to 1". Near Mint(+) (8.9) to Collectible. Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $135.

 

Lot #67. SWIRL. Assorted core. Lot of six marbles. All have damage, but are polishable. Divided core, three thin bands, 2-1/8". Divided core, three layer, 2-1/4". Single ribbon core, 1-7/8". Single ribbon core, beauty, 1-7/8". Divided core, three bands, 1-3/4". Latticinio core, yellow, 1-5/16". All of these are Good(-) to Collectible, but the large ones are very hard to find. All would take a polish, although a couple have some deep chips. Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Final Bid: $260.

 

Lot #68. END OF DAY. Onionskin. Left hand twist huge onionskin. Opaque white core with transparent pink skin. The marble has been filled, re-worked and repaired. 2-1/2". Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $160.

 

Lot #69. END OF DAY. Panelled onionskin. Four panel onionskin. Two panels are pink on yellow, two are blue on white. There are internal fractures, dings, chips and overall scratching. Big marble. 2-1/4". Near Mint(-) (8.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Final Bid: $200.

 

Lot #70. END OF DAY. Cloud. An superb and very rare four-panel single-pontil cloud. Stunning marble. This marble was constructed in layers. Transparent clear base. First layer is opaque white flakes. The only stretching occurs a the pontil. There are then two opposing panels of melted smeared yellow glass. Nest is a layer of transparent pink flakes, predominately on the yellow. Then, finally, two small panels of transparent blue flakes, predominately on the white. Swirl of transparent dark green at the top, which is heavily cased. There is one 7/8" area of chipping, one rough spot and several subsurface moons. The marble views very well from one side and fairly well from the other. Extremely rare. Germany, circa 1870-1915. 2-1/4". Near Mint(- Pre-Sale Estimate: $625-$1250. Final Bid: $675.

Lot #73. END OF DAY. Panelled onionskin. Four panel onionskin with mica. Opaque white base. Two transparent pink panels and two transparent green. All panels are about the same width. Mica in the pink panels. Surface has been polished, the remnants of some chips remain. 1-5/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $220.

Contains fifteen 5/8" Carnelians, an Imperial, three anemic Carnelians (missing flourescent glass) and six "fish-eye" red Flinties. All marbles are about 5/8" and Mint (9.9-9.6). Minor rubbing at bottom right hand corner. Box is 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" x 3/4". Contains twenty five 21/32" opalescent semi-opaque white marbles. I have classified this as Peltier, rather than Akro, for the following reasons: First, there is no other example of Gropper packaging that we know of that includes Akro Agates (except for one sampler box). Second,The name "National" always applied to Peltiers. Third, the marbles are t0o opaque and have too many air bubbles to be Akros, and they are certainly not Christensen Agates. Also, we know that Peltier used opalescent glass. In any event, a very rare box. Pre-Sale Estimate: $1750-$3500. Final Bid: $2160.
