Lot #1. SULPHIDE. . Doe standing on a mound of grass. Nice figure. Well centered. Small air bubble at the back of the head. Figure has an annealing fracture. Surface has been buffed, pontil partially intact. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$225. Final Bid: $70.

Lot #2. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a begging bear. Excellent detail, very tiny air bubble on one side. Slightly off-center. Originally from the collection of Mary Louise Stanley. Still carries her inventory label. Picture number 988 in Children's Glass Toys. Some very tiny pits and very tiny flakes. 1-7/8". Near Mint (8.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $140.

Lot #3. SULPHIDE. . Figure is an ape walking on all fours on a mound of grass. Large figure. Excellent detail. Slightly off-center. Surface has been polished. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $145.

Lot #4. SULPHIDE. . Bust of Jenny Lind. Excellent detail. Superb figure. Well centered, but set slightly forward and high. One barely noticeable air bubble on the hair and one barely noticeable on on part of the bodice. Rare marble. Polished. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $850-$1700. Final Bid: $500.

Lot #5. SULPHIDE. . Figure of the numeral 8 in pink glass. Very rare. Small figure, fairly well centered, with no air bubbles on it. Marble contains lots of cloudiness and tiny air bubbles. The glass was probably from near the bottom of the pot, or else the pink color caused cloudiness. Either way, it is still very rare. True pink sulphides are almost impossible to find. Polished. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $1000-$2000. Final Bid: $600.

Lot #6. SULPHIDE. . Reclining male lion on a slab base. Clear and well-detailed figure. Large figure, well centered. Surface has been polished. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $140.

Lot #7. SULPHIDE. . Standing pig on a grass mound. Air bubble between the legs. Snout is missing. Above average detail. Set slightly low. Several small moons and one small subsurface moon. None detract from viewing the figure. Near Mint (8.3). 1-5/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $70.

Lot #8. SULPHIDE. . Standing elephant on a grass mound. Set slightly high in the marble. No air bubbles. Average detail. Originally from the collection of Mary Louise Stanley, but not pictured in her book. Carries an inventory tag. 1-1/2". Mint (9.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $160-$325. Final Bid: $145.

Lot #12. SULPHIDE. . Standing figure of Kate Greenaway. Well-detailed and well centered. Slight air bubble on one side. Polished. Slighly oval now. 1-3/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Final Bid: $180.

Lot #13. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a reclining lamb on a grass mound. Figure set high and to one side. Average detail. Small air bubbles on the figure. From the collection of Mary Louise Stanley. Lot #14. SULPHIDE. . Some sort of animal, perhaps a dog or bear. Resting on one knee with it's hands clasped in a symbol of supplication. Wearing a Prussian (?) army hat. I have been told that this is one of three anthromorphic figures from a French fairy tale. Excellent detail, but small air bubbles on the figure. Well centered. Buffed, a few chips remain. 1-3/8". Lot #15. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a standing male lion on a grass mound. Large figure for the marble. Excellent detail, no air bubbles. Surface has been polished. 1-1/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $100.

Lot #16. SULPHIDE. . Male lion seated on his hind quarters. Clear with excellent detail to the figure. Set very slightly off-center. Buffed, with pontil partially intact. Nice figure. 1-1/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $130.

Lot #17. SWIRL. Latticinio core. White latticinio core. Eight two-color outer bands. One additional red strand in that outer layer. Very colorful. Three very tiny chips or flakes. I can't grade it as Mint, because of that, but it views much better than the condition indicates. 1-7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $145.

Lot #19. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band core. At first glance it looks like a ribbon core. Each band is red with blue and white or green and white on it. Almost no spaces between the bands. Outer layer is three sets of yellow and white strands. Stunning. Some tiny chips, flakes and subsurface moon. Still, views very well. 2-1/8". Near Mint (8.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $275-$550. Lot #27. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Super razor thin single ribbon core. Ribbon is pink, yellow, turquoise and white on one side. It's blue, pink, yellow and white on the other. Fills the marble. Lot #49. END OF DAY. Onionskin. Stunning marble. Very large multicolor onionskin with mica. Very rare. Opaque white core. Core is covered by stretched flecks of pink, green and blue. All colors are transparent. Nice sprinkling of mica on the core. Surface has a tiny moon, a very tiny flake, a little pit of pinpricking and a few sparkles. Still, it views much better than the condition indicates. It is very hard to find these larger ones with mica. And the multicolor pattern would be hard to find in any size. Lot #55. END OF DAY. Onionskin. Rare end of cane (last off cane) four panel onionskin with mica. Two panels are pink on white, two are pink on yellow. Nice sprinkling of mica. From the end of the cane, the core colors are shooting out of the bottom of the marble and smear the bottom quarter of it on one side. Large chip and some smaller chips. However, the end of cane area is Mint and that side of the marble views very well, almost all the damage is on the other side. Rare. 1-3/4". Good(-) (7.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $275-$550. Unfortunately, it has two melt spots, two flakes and some subsurface moons. Not much glass missing, but the damage is noticeable. Still, an absolutely stunning marble and extremely rare. 1-1/16". Lot #166. MISCELLANEOUS. Tournament statue. Extremely rare Tournament Award statue. Bronze over plaster. Young boy kneeling down, shooting a marble, on a large base. The two long sides are embossed "The Marble Shooter at Atlantic City". The front small side is engraved "Presented to Stanley Smith by the City of Atlantic City". Has a green patina to it. Weighs about forty pounds. About 12" x 6" x 8" (sight). One very small piece of copper missing from the abdomen, showing the plaster underneath. Only noticeable from one angle. This is only the fourth example of this statue that we have heard of. See page 203 of Marble Mania for two of them. This statue was presented to at the National Tournament when it was held in Atlantic City (1922-1929?). Stanley Smith is not listed in Pre-Sale Estimate: $7500-$15000. Final Bid: $4000.

Lot #249. VITRO AGATE COMPANY. Oxblood. Very interesting marble. Transparent clear base with wispy white in it. One side has an opaque green patch. Other side is completely brushed by wispy Vitro oxblood. Interesting marble as it exhibits the "Popeye Patch" pattern you see frequently in Vitros. One very tiny flake. 5/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Exhibits the two seam pattern, similar to Master Marble Company marbles, that is typical of German machine mades. German, probably 1930s. Lot #261. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Joe St. Clair. Sulphide from the President series. St. Clair produced a sulphide series in the later 1970s to early 1980s that included sulphide busts of all the presidents up to the time. Each was incised in the back with the president's number. This is #31 Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In great shape. Hard to find. St. Clair was killed in a car accident about ten years ago. Signed "JSTC". 2". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Lot #265. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Rolf & Genie Wald. "Spinner" marble. Transparent clear core covered by a layer of transparent gold lutz. Outer layer is twelve colored bands. Each a different color and equidistantly spaced around the marble. Cased by transparent clear glass. Signed "Wald 98". These are called "Spinners" because if you spin them like a top and look at them from above, they change color as the marble slows down. 1-7/16". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $45-$90.
