Lot #13. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a dog seated on its rear haunches. Excellent detail, set slightly back. No air bubbles. Surface is exceptional. 1-5/8". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $130.

Lot #14. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a perched parrot. Excellent detail to the figure. Large figure. Very well centered. Surface is exceptional, with perhaps one very tiny rub mark near the bottom pontil. 1-7/8". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $360-$725. Final Bid: $290.

Lot #15. SULPHIDE. . Very rare figure. Two side bust. Heart shaped shield edged by olive sprigs. On one side is the bust of President James Garfield. On the other side is a bust of his Vice President, Chester A. Arthur. Excellent detail. Two brown burn marks on the Arthur side. Minor insertion crack in the figure. Very minor shallow air bubbles on the sprigs, not on the busts. Well centered. Excellent, very clear figure. Almost impossible to find. Marble has been polished. Remnants of two small chips, near the bottom, do not detract at all from viewing. A couple of tiny sparkles elsewhere on the marble. Rare opportunity. 1-5/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $1250-$2500. Lot #16. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a walking bear (polar bear?). Excellent detail. Large figure, well centered. Very shallow air bubble at the bottom of one side. 1-3/4". Mint (9.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $130.

Lot #17. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a standing dog. Figure has an insertion crack. Slightly off center. Well detailed. No air bubbles. Marble surface has been buffed, pontil remains. 1-7/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $120.

Lot #18. SULPHIDE. . Two sided shield figure. One side is a young boy, sleeping under a tree, with a billy goat in mid-leap to jump on him. Other side is a stag head surrounded by oak branches. Exceptional detail. No air bubbles on the figure. One small air bubble floating in the marble. Set slightly low in the marble. Surface has been polished. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. Lot #19. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a standing sheep, with a lamb under her on one side. Above average detail. The very tip of the sheep's nose is missing. So is the very bottom of the tail. No air bubbles on the figure, one tiny floating air bubble in the marble. Set a little high. A couple of tiny subsurface moons. 1-5/8". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Lot #20. SULPHIDE. . Figure of a naked seated child. Very large figure for the marble. Excellent detail. No air bubbles except for very shallow "silvering". Left hand appears to be clenched in a fist, possibly holding a marble in shooting position(?). Well-centered, slightly back. Marble has been polished. 2". Pre-Sale Estimate: $400-$800. Lot #23. SULPHIDE. . Figure of an apeman on all fours. Poor detail to figure. Small figure. Well-centered. Shallow air bubble on either side of the figure. Lot #25. SULPHIDE. . Excellent example. Large marble. Figure is large for the marble. Grazing sheep. One of the largest figures I have seen. Excellent detail to the figure. Some very shallow air bubbles around the base. Well centered. The surface has two tiny rub spots. No damage. 2-3/16". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $250-$500. Final Bid: $185.

Lot #26. SULPHIDE. . Figure is teh face of Kaiser Wilhelm on a coin disk. Face is on one side only . Other side has a filigree design. Good detail. Slight air bubble around the face. Set slightly high. Marble surface has been polished, but has some flat spots. Very rare figure. 2". Pre-Sale Estimate: $850-$1700. Final Bid: $525.

Lot #27. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a seated girl in a dress reading a book. Well centered with excellent detail. A beauty. Rare. Polished, a couple of tiny damage marks remain at top and bottom, but nothing that interferes with viewing the figure. 2". Pre-Sale Estimate: $550-$1100. Final Bid: $350.

Lot #28. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a little boy, riding on a hobby horse, and blowing a horn. Above average detail. Well centered. A small piece of the lower left hand front broke during insertion, but is intact. Buffed, pontil partially visible. 1-7/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $375-$750. Final Bid: $300.

Lot #29. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a male lion, crouching down, preparing to pounce. Excellent detail to the figure. Well-centered. Small air bubble on one side, other side is very clear. Lot #31. SULPHIDE. . Human figure, from the waist up, on a pedestal. Variously identified as Beethoven, Chopin, or a European statesman. Exceptional detail. Large figure. Set off to one side in the marble. Surface has been polished. Rare. 1-7/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $1400-$2800. Final Bid: $750.

Lot #32. SULPHIDE. . Swimming swan. Arched neck, creating a donut hole. Above average detail, well centered. Very rare, the neck almost always breaks on these. Very nice. Surface of the marble has been polished. 1-3/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $350-$700. Final Bid: $300.

Lot #33. SULPHIDE. . Anthromorphic, non-human figure (perhaps a mouse) in a colonial garb (longcoat). Holding hat in one hand and other hand cocked on waist. Excellent detail. Well centered. There is a small air bubble floating between the figure and the surface, just above the figure. Rare. Polished surface. 1-5/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $700-$1400. Final Bid: $450.

Lot #34. SULPHIDE. . Figure of an angel, playing a lyre or tiny harp. Winged figure is squatted down on one knee. Clothe draped over leg. Holding instrument to ear. Average detail. Lot #35. SWIRL. Solid core. Three-layer solid core swirl. Opaque white core. Middle layer is three bands of pink and blue. Outer layer is three bands of pink, green and blue. Subsurface moon, a couple of tiny chips. Not wet. 1-5/8". Near Mint (8.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $95-$190. Final Bid: $90.

Lot #36. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Very nice end of cane (last off cane) swirl. White latticinio core swirl. Outer layer is two pink and blue bands and two green and blue bands. Lot #45. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Excellent example from near the end of the cane. Ghost core with several wide yellow strands. Outer layer is a red band, a red and white band, a blue band and a green and white band. A few cloudy glass spots at the bottom pontil (from the glass butt used to hold it. One melt piece of glass on it. An absolute beauty. Stunning marble. 1-1/8". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $80.

Lot #46. SWIRL. Solid core. Interesting error. Was supposed to be a solid core. Core is translucent yellow. Lots of clear spaces in the core. Outer layer is three bands of red, white and green. In great shape. A beauty. 1-3/16". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $80-$175. Final Bid: $110.

Lot #50. SWIRL. Divided core. English colors. Three band core. Each band is very wide. There are almost no clear spaces between bands. One is red and yellow, one is blue and orange, one is green and white. All are very bright colors. Outer layer is two sets of three white strands and a set of three yellow strands. Each outer set is mirroring a clear space in the core. Marble has been polished. Pontils are gone, a couple of tiny remnants of damage remain. Very pretty marble. 1". Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Lot #51. SWIRL. Latticinio core. White latticinio core swirl. Outer layer is six bands. Two are pink and blue on white, two are green and pink on yellow. Very nicely made. One chip and several small chips. 1-1/16". Near Mint (8.4). Pre-Sale Estimate: $35-$70. Final Bid: $20.

Lot #52. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Rare three-layer end of cane swirl (last off cane). White latticinio core swirl. Middle layer is six bands of pink on white. Outer layer is six sets of yellow strands. One one side, three of the middle and outer layer bands are partial. Tight twist. Som e tiny chips and pits on the surface. Still, rare and a beauty. 1-1/16". Near Mint (8.3). Pre-Sale Estimate: $225-$450. Final Bid: $140.

Lot #53. SWIRL. Divided core. A beauty. Three band core. Each is green, yellow, orange, white and blue bands. They are wide, flat bands. This marble would be a ribbon if there were only one or two bands. Outer layer is three sets of white strands. Some tiny subsurface moons and a little bit of wear. Originally sold in Block's Box Absentee Marble Auction #31 as Lot #18. Carries the absentee auction label. 1-3/16". Near Mint(-) (8.1). Pre-Sale Estimate: $50-$100. Final Bid: $28.

Lot #54. SWIRL. Divided core. From near the beginning of the cane. Was supposed to be a four band core, but only has three bands. One is pink, blue and yellow. One is pink and yellow (missing the blue). One is blue and white (the other blue and white band is missing. Four outer bands. Two are sets of white strands, two are sets of yellow strands. Several small and tiny subsurface moons. Still, looks great. 1". Near Mint (8.4). Pre-Sale Estimate: $40-$80. Final Bid: $30.

Lot #55. SWIRL. Divided core. Four band core. Two are pink and green on yellow, two are pink and blue on white. Outer layer is two sets of white strands alternating with two sets of yellow strands. Lot #56. SWIRL. Solid core. Three layer marble. Translucent white core. Very narrow. Middle layer is two red bands alternating with two transparent blue bands. Outer layer is three sets of yellow strands. A small subsurface moon and some surface pitting. Very pretty. 29/32". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $65-$130. Final Bid: $50.

Lot #57. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Rare core. Core is alternating white and opaque red strands. The red strands are wide. Outer layer is two bands of blue on white and two bands of green on white. A number of small and tiny subsurface moons and flakes. 29/32". Good (7.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $45.

Lot #58. SWIRL. Solid core. Fat opaque yellow core. Four bands on it. Each is two green strands, edged by pink strands. Outer layer is four sets of three yellow strands. Polished. Pontils gone, one moon remains. 13/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $17.50-$35. Final Bid: $22.

Lot #59. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band core. Probably from near an end of the cane. Two are pink and green on yellow, other is pink and blue on white. Probably needed another pink and blue on white. Outer layer of four sets of two yellow strands. One small flake near the top, and a tiny manufacturing pit. 7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $27.50-$55. Final Bid: $10.

Lot #60. SWIRL. Divided core. Quite frankly, I'm only guessing at what type of core this was meant to be. From near the end of the cane, either the first or second marble off the cane. Transparent clear base. Core is wispy dark green and air bubbles now. There are two bands of white, blue, pink and yellow coming out of the surface, and a narrow band of yellow coming out too. Some dirt on the surface. One tiny subsurface moon, one tiny pit and a couple of tiny pinpricks. Views much better than the condition grade. 27/32". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $110-$225. Lot #61. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Orange latticinio core. Bright orange. Outer layer is two orange bands and two blue on white bands. One manufacturing melt pit, overall pitting and tiny chips. 1-1/16". Good(+) (7.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $20.

Lot #62. SWIRL. Latticinio core. White latticinio core swirl. Outer layer is three yellow strands and three transparent purple bands. Several tiny sparkles, all in one spot. A beauty. 29/32". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $40-$80. Final Bid: $10.

Lot #63. SWIRL. Solid core. Translucent yellow core. Outer layer is three blue and white bands, and three green and white bands. Two small chips and some small subsurface moons. 1". Good(+) (7.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $27.50-$55. Final Bid: $17.

Lot #64. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band core. Each is a blue, pink, yellow, green on white. Outer layer is three sets of yellow and white strands. Small subsurface moon and some pitting. 15/16". Near Mint (8.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $45-$90. Final Bid: $10.

Lot #65. SWIRL. . There is no category for these, but they are beautiful and rare. Transparent clear base. Three subsurface bands covering about seventy five percent of the marble. One band is stretched bright red, one is stretched bright yellow, one is stretched pale light green. One bright white strand in the core. Rare! A few tiny pits. One sparkle. Great marble. 27/32". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $135.

Lot #66. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Outstanding example. Double ribbon core. Both ribbons are opaque white with pink and blue strands and bands on them. One tiny annealing fracture on one ribbon. Outer layer is a band of six yellow strands mirroring each ribbon face. Beauty. One tiny pit. 13/16". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $40.

Lot #67. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Exceptional example. Single ribbon core. Opaque white ribbon with pink edges. Four blue bands on one face, four turquoise bands on the other. There is a band of pink on white mirroring each face, forming a middle layer. Outer layer is four white strands. Absolutely outstanding example!!!! A manufacturing pit. Rare opportunity. 27/32". Lot #68. SWIRL. Divided core. Super coloring. Probably English. Three band core. Each band is red, white, blue, yellow and green. Outer layer is three bands. Each band consists of three red strands and three white strands. Two very small chips next to each other, a subsurface moon, and a couple of tiny chips. 29/32". Near Mint (8.5). Lot #69. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Single ribbon core. Opaque white ribbon. One face has a band of transparent blue and the other face has a band of transparent pink. Lot #70. SWIRL. Solid core. Opaque white core with two bands of pink, one of green, one of blue. Outer layer is a cage of eleven yellow bands. Thick clear casing. Lot #71. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Naked single ribbon core swirl. Transparent clear base. Opaque white ribbon. Pink and blue bands on each side. Very pretty. One tiny flake and a couple of tiny pinpricks. Beautiful shooter. 7/8". Near Mint (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $125.

Lot #72. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Double ribbon core. Each is a ribbon of opaque white, edged by red. There are two outer bands mirroring the ribbon edges. One opaque white edged by blue, one opaque white edged by turquoise. Surface buffed, damage remains. 13/16"". Pre-Sale Estimate: $40-$80. Final Bid: $20.

Lot #73. SWIRL. Solid core. Three layer solid core swirl. Opaque white core. Middle layer is narrow bands of blue, pink and green. Outer layer is a cage of yellow strands. One tiny airhole, one tiny chip. 7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $50-$100. Final Bid: $70.

Lot #74. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Yellow latticinio core. Outer layer is three bands of pink alternating with three bands of opaque white. Large pieces of unmelted sand in the marble. A moon and some haziness. 3/4". Good(+) (7.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $20-$40. Final Bid: $15.

Lot #75. SWIRL. Latticinio core. End of cane (first-off-cane) latticinio core swirl. White core. Outer layer is a band of white with blue on it, a band of white with pink on it, a partial band of white with very little pink, and a few wisps of white where the second white and blue bands should have been. Subsurface fracture running pole to pole on the side opposite the missing band. No damage to the surface. 23/32". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $65-$130. Final Bid: $15.

Two very deep lobes (almost to the center) opposite each other, with two shallower lobes at the other two cardinal sides. Nicely ground pontil. Initially I thought that one side of the surface had been buffed, but close examination with a 10x loupe leads me to believe that the entire surface is original. Very unusual and very rare. 21/32". Lot #204. NON-GLASS HANDMADE. Original box. Interesting box of twenty four dyed dense clays. Box is 3" x 2-1/2" x 5/8". Cardboard. Printed in red and green. Lot #205. NON-GLASS HANDMADE. China. Lot of fourteen marbles. All are glazed handpainted chinas with six bullseyes. Two red, two black, two Wedgewood blue. All about 5/8" and Mint. Contained in a cardboard box, hand-block printed in a chinese motif. Consignor feels that the marbles may be original to the box. I think he might be right. The box would hold eight rows of four marbles (thirty two), perfectly, which would be correct for a solitaire board. The box is older in my opinion, certainly first quarter of this century. Lot #208. MISCELLANEOUS. Perfume package. One of the oddest marble-related items that I have ever had. Small cardboard tube containing ten perfume sample ampoules. "Connoisseur" "The sweet romance of a single blossom" "Authorized Rebottler NIPS Inc. N.Y. 16 N.Y.". What makes this marble related is that the tube has a 1/2" Peltier Glass Company Rainbo encased in one end. I have no idea why the packaging was made this way, except purely as decoration. The marble appears to serve no functional purpose, and it does not seem to be related to the perfume or its name in any manner. About 4" long. Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $30-$60. Final Bid: $55.

Lot #209. MISCELLANEOUS. Tournament medal. Bronze medal. Plaque type. Two kids playing Ringer in front of a grandstand. Ribbon reading "National Marble Tournament" along the bottom. Two shields at top reading "19" and "38". Eagle above. Nothing on the back. Purple and white ribbon attached. Pinback was detached from ribbon at some point, a safety if stitched on, but it appears to be almost as old as the medal. Medal is a bit worn, slightly bent and has a dark patina. Comes in the original brown presentation box. Silk bed, printed inside with the name of the Chicago medaleur who presumably distributed it. Box is Mint, medal is Near Mint. Lot #278. MASTER MARBLE/GLASS COMPANY. Original package. Lot of three items. Excellent set. Each is a Master Glass No. 13 cardboard box. Each contains thirteen shooter Master Glass Clearies and Sunbursts. One has a plain back. One reads "- West Virginia Lions - Shootin' For - Third (3rd) Vice President with Dudley L. Simms". Another reads "Bridgeport Lions shootin' for District Governor 29-V with Charley Riemann". That one has the Lions logo and a picture of Mr. Riemann. Each box is about 7" x 2" x 3/4". Each has some minor tears at the ovals. All are bright and clean. These came in as part of an estate. Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $260.

Lot #285. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Fritz Glass. Limited Edition! These are called "Crazy Indians". Opaque black base with subsurface white strands in a crazy swirl. Signature cane on the top pole!!! Fritz Lauenstein only made two of these, and individually numbered them. Handmade and signed "Fritz 1998 2-4" (#2 of 4 total). 1-9/16". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $220.
