Lot #12.SULPHIDE. .

Very rare figure. Praying female "angel". Young girl in a dress. Standing with hands clasped in prayer. Has two large angel wings on her back. Standing on the ground with a flower growing at either side of her legs. Above average detail. No air bubbles. Set slightly high. This is a definitive sulphide. Exceptional example of a Victorian mourning remembrances. Surface has a small flake on the side, which does not detract from viewing. A couple of tiny pits. Very rare. 1-11/16". Near Mint (8.6). Naked single ribbon core. Ribbon is opaque white band, flanked by opaque red band on one edge and translucent dark purple band on the other edge. Sometimes referred to as the "German Flag" swirl. Cloud type of end of day. Pink and white core, visible through the top of the marble. Subsurface layer of opaque white, covered by transparent pink splotches and opaque blue spots. Very rare marble. Sixteen lobe onionskin with mica from near an end of the cane. Transparent clear base. Core is a mix of opaque white and opaque yellow. Covered by pink and turquoise spots. Sixteen lobes, ranging from deep to shallow. Well-spaced. Nice sprinkling of mica. The marble is from near the end of the cane (last of cane). This is because the lobing ends about two-thirds of the way down the marble. Very unusual. Some tiny subsurface moons and sparkles. Several air bubbles in the marble. Rare single-pontil cloud. Transparent clear base. Opaque white mushroom cloud, filling about three-quarters of the marble. Two yellow panels, one blue panel, one green panel. Panels are on the lower part of the mushroom. Overall skin of very "chunky" pink. Two small subsurface moons. Superb. 2-1/16". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $750-$1500. Final Bid: $700.

 

Lot #75.END OF DAY. Cloud.

Another rare single-pontil cloud. Transparent clear base. Snow-white mushroom cloud filling about three-quarters of the marble. Two pink panels, two blue panels. A little yellow and green. Left-twist. The panels are on the very bottom of the mushroom. The marble appears to be buffed, and possibly reheated. The bottom pontil is pretty much intact. 2". Pre-Sale Estimate: $300-$600. Very interesting glass paperweight.Four-panel latticinio core constricted into an hourglass shape by an torus air bubble. Each panel is latticinio strands. One is six blue strands, one is three red strands, one is six green strands, last is six yellow strands. Air bubble surrounded by green floating inside the core at the top of it. Paperweight is an ten sided diamond shape with beveled edges. Signed on bottom "China". 1-5/8" high, 2" wide. Compare the design of this paperweight to several similar large "Swirl" marbles that have been sold elsewhere over the past few years. This paperweight is Chinese and dates to the mid-1930s. Mint. Metal bottle stopper with an onionskin. Pewter stopper with a cork collar. Pink onionskin embedded on a pewter rod. Place the bottle down and the onionskin falls into the collar, closing the bottle. Tilt the bottle and the weight of the marble forces the pin to extend, opening the bottle. Stamped on side "Pat'd Oct 13, 1863". 2-3/8" long. Marble is about 11/16" and has an annealing fracture.
