Lot #1. SULPHIDE. . Exceptional colored glass sulphide. Gorgeous light aqua glass. Figure is a running hunting dog. Excellent detail to the figure. The figure fills the marble and is well centered. There is a tiny air bubble by the right eye, and a small air bubble floating near the surface of the marble. The pontil is nicely ground and is at the right side of the marble, directly opposite the tip of the tail. Has one tiny melt pit at the top. Superior example. 1-1/16". Mint (9.6). Lot #2. SULPHIDE. . Nice sulphide in colored glass. Base glass is transparent brown. Figure is a dog reclining on a rock. Excellent detail to the figure. Set slightly back and to one side. No air bubbles. The surface has been lightly buffed. The remnants of tiny moons remain, as well as the pontil. 1-5/16". Pre-Sale Estimate: $1500-$3000. Final Bid: $1000.

Lot #3. SULPHIDE. . Handpainted figure in clear glass. Figure is a bust of Jenny Lind. This figure is extremely rare as a handpainted sulphide. Excellent detail to the figure. Set very slightly off to one side. No air bubbles. The hair is painted black, the bodice is painted green. Black eyes, eyebrows and outh. Tiny rub spot and tiny moon in the front of the marble. 1-3/8". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2500-$5000. Final Bid: $2350.

Lot #4. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a standing clown. Pointed hat. Right hand in his pocket, left hand at his side. Excellent detail to the figure. No air bubbles. Figure is set off to one side. Surface has several tiny chips and pinpricks, and some light rubbing. 1-1/4". Near Mint(-) (8.2). Pre-Sale Estimate: $400-$800. Final Bid: $350.

Lot #5. SULPHIDE. . Base glass is very lightly tinted rose. Figure is a razorback boar. Excellent detail. Large figure. Set slightly low. Very shallow air bubble on the back of the abdomen. Ground pontil underneath the figure. 1-13/16". Mint (9.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $325-$650. Final Bid: $250.

Lot #6. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Three layer swirl. White latticinio core swirl. Middle layer is four bands. Two are pink and blue on white, two are pink and green on white. Outer layer is four sets of white strands. Two pits and a very tiny flake. It is very hard to find these large ones as three-layer marbles or in Mint condition. 2-1/16". Lot #10. SWIRL. Latticinio core. White latticinio core swirl. Outer layer is four wide bands. Two are transparent blue on an opaque white strand, edged on one side by a yellow strand. Other two are transparent green on an opaque white strand, edged on one side by a yellow strands. One tiny area of rubbing and a small area of rubbing near the top that appears to be from a grindstone. 1-11/16". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $140.

Lot #13. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Lot of three marbles. Matched set of three swirls, off the same cane. Yellow latticinio core. Outer layer is four bands. Two are transparent dark green with opaque white, two are transparent dark green and dark purple with opaque white. Each is the same pattern, so there is little doubt that these are same cane. 25/32" to 13/16". Mint (9.9-9.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $70.

Lot #14. SWIRL. Peppermint. Rare shooter peppermint. Transparent clear base. Opaque white subsurface layer. Two wide transparent dark blue panels. Two transparent pink bands in each of the resulting two white panels. Excellent construction. Two tiny pits, a couple of tiny pinpricks. I have to grade it below Mint, although it views much better than that. 7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $200.

Lot #15. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Very rare marble. Partial core of alternating blue and yellow latticinio strands. Core is only about one-quarter complete. Outer layer is three bands. Lot #18. SWIRL. Joseph Coat. This is actually an end of day type. Transparent clear base. Wide subsurface panel of stretched electric red and orange bands, narrow subsurface panel of stretched electric yellow bands. One stretched white band on the surface. Gorgeous. 11/16". Mint (9.8). Lot #19. SWIRL. Joseph Coat. Another end of day coreless type. Four-panel. Transparent clear base. Two panels are packed stretched bands of bright yellow. Other two panels are stretched bands of bright blue. A number of clear spaces. 9/16". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $65.

Lot #20. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Naked double twist single ribbon core swirl. Razor thin ribbon, twisted twice. Ribbon is a complex combination of yellow, white, pink, green and blue. Pontil is faceted. Surface has a few tiny pinpricks, and some melted airholes. 25/32". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $60-$125. Final Bid: $310.

Lot #21. SWIRL. Divided core. Gorgeous divided core swirl. Three band core. Each is pink on white, faintly edged by green. Outer layer is three bands of blue strands on white. Double twist. Faceted pontil. 5/8". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $20-$40. Final Bid: $55.

Lot #22. END OF DAY. Panelled onionskin. Rare large four-lobe four-panel onionskin. Transparent very lightly tinted blue base. Opaque white core. Four deep lobes. Two panels of blue and two of pink. The pink panels are wider than the blue panels. So, the lobes result in the blue panels being on two of the peaks, with pink in all the troughs and two of the peaks. Exceptional construction, nicely made. Unfortunately, I cannot grade it Mint, but it views much better than the grade would indicate. A tiny moon and a tiny flake. Also, a small melt dimple. Lot #23. END OF DAY. Cloud. Exceptional single pontil cloud. Transparent clear base. Cloud core of opaque white dots with transparent dark blue spots on it. Slight lobe on one side. Lot #24. END OF DAY. Panelled Onionskin. Four-panel onionskin. Transparent clear base. Opaque white core. Two blue and turquoise panels, two pink panels. The pink panels each have a shallow lobe. Lot #25. END OF DAY. Cloud. Another outstanding example. Single pontil cloud. Transparent clear base. Fat core of yellow splotches. Two small panels of white splotches. On the yellow and white are two panels of blue splotches and two panels of pink splotches. Two shallow lobes. Ground pontil. Tiny subsurface moon, two tiny pinpricks. Lot #26. END OF DAY. Onionskin. Very rare marble. Left-twist onionskin with mica. Beautiful example. Transparent clear base. Opaque white core. Skin of transparent pink with some green. Liberal layer of mica on the skin. Distinct left-twist. Superb example and a great marble. One very tiny flake, one tiny scratch, two tiny hit marks that are more distinct than a sparkle but that don't justify classification as a subsurface moon. Excellent marble! 1-9/16". Lot #27. END OF DAY. Panelled onionskin. Four-panel onionskin. Transparent clear base. Core is two panels of white and two of yellow. Pink skin on the yellow and light green skin on the white. The pink panels are larger than the yellow, so they bleed over into the white panels. Marble is slightly flattened at either pole, so it's diameter is larger around the equator than pole to pole (sort of like an onion). Two tiny chips, a couple of tiny pinpricks, a sparkle. 1-5/8". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $130.

Lot #28. END OF DAY. Onionskin. One of the most unbelievable onionskins I have ever seen. Another extremely rare and important marble. Transparent clear base. Opaque white core. Core is covered with splotches of bright red, bright orange, bright yellow, bright blue. And I mean bright!!! One extremely tiny sparkle spot. Absolutely stunning marble. It will knock your socks off. 1-5/8". Mint (9.6) . This marble was originally sold as CyberAuction #483, Lot #60 for $4,050. The high bidder has consigned it back now in order to expand his collection. Super opportunity. Pre-Sale Estimate: $3500-$7000. Final Bid: $1250.

Lot #29. END OF DAY. Onionskin. Interesting example. Transparent clear base. Appears to have a yellow core. Subsurface layer is stretched bands of blue, orange and white. A few very thin clear spaces in the subsurface layer. One small annealing fracture on that layer, cold roll line, tiny subsurface moon. 1-7/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Lot #32. END OF DAY. Submarine. Extremely rare End of Day Submarine. Transparent clear base. Candle-type core is opaque yellow with pink and green on it. Two subsurface panels that look like a double ribbon core. Each is white with pink, blue and green skin on them. They float above the yellow core. A little bit of mica in the outer panels. The panels cover about seventy-five percent of the marble, with an opening at either edge so you can view the core. One extremely tiny pinprick. Ground pontil. This is an extremely rare and important marble. It is pictured on Page 51 of the book Marble Mania as the two upper right corner pictures. Just a hair under 1-1/8". Mint (9.6). There is a layer of glass between the lutz and the core. The lutz on this marble is the heaviest I have ever seen on a lutz. Outer layer of clear glass. One is stretched transparent pink and opaque yellow. Other is stretched transparent pink and opaque yellow with a little green and white. One tiny melt spot. 13/16". Mint(-) (9.1). Lot #50. OTHER HANDMADE. Indian. Transparent brown base. Two bands of finely stretched light yellow covering about eighty five percent of the surface. Two melt spots, two tiny subsurface moons. 13/16". Near Mint(+) (8.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $40.

Lot #51. OTHER HANDMADE. Indian. One of the rarest marbles I have ever seen. Consignor classified it as a single pontil three hundred sixty degree Indian, although it could also be classified as an uncased Cloud. Either way, it is extremely rare and stunning. Transparent cobalt blue base. Surface is completely covered by spots of opaque yellow, opaque white and transparent pink. The yellow runs from the pole over the top of the marble back down to the pole. The white form panels on either side. No stretching of the color, a true cloud surface. One very tiny sparkle, one very tiny melt pit. Unbelievable and stunning marble. Single pontil. 15/16". MInt(-) (9.1). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2750-$5500. Final Bid: $3550.

Lot #62. OTHER HANDMADE. Paperweight. Extremely rare, large Millefiori type Paperweight marble. In nice shape. Transparent clear base. Bottom is a layer of packed millefiori canes, in four differnt patterns. Single pontil. There is a subsurface moon near the bottom of the marble. It does not interfere with viewing the canes, and can only be seen when the marble is viewed from the lower side. A stunning marble. And it is extremely rare! 1-11/16". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Lot #67. NON-GLASS HANDMADE. China. Glazed handpainted china. A blue line and an intersecting orange line create four quadrants. Because the two lines intersect at a sixty degree angle, instead of a ninety degree angle, two quadrants cover a third each of the surface, and the other two cover a sixth each. There are green tracks in the two larger quadrants. 3/4". Mint (9.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $40-$80. Final Bid: $16.

Lower edge of box has mildew damage and some deterioration. Box is Near Mint (8.6). Bag is pristine. Includes six limeades (two have a little oxblood), six lemonades, and one Ringer. All are about 5/8" and Mint. Also includes the 1/2" patch marble that you find in some of the original boxes. Lot #149. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Matthews Art Glass . One of the Animal Skin series. This is the Grevyit Zebra. These are made using the Graal technique, pioneered by Orrefors Glass in the early 1900s. Each design is a replica of an actual animal skin permanently housed at the Smithsonian. From the artist's original photographs of the animal pelt to the masking and crafting of the sphere, this is an exceptional example of one of hte endangered Zebras. Signed "Matthews 2000". 2-7/16". Lot #150. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Matthews Art Glass. Population Portrait No. IX. Matthew's most impressive and ambitious sphere grouping. Within the handblown artist's jar are marbles in a variety of patterns, sizes and designs, grouped by the artist to achieve both color and spacial relationships. Population Portrait IX took four years to design and produce. The jar is approximately 37" tall, with two pieces of polished granite serving as the composition's foundation. All together there are one hundred forty four "Premium" select marbles, virtually all different. Each marble is signed by Mark Matthews and double numbered. Each carries the jar number and also the sequential number 1 to 144 within the jar, dated 1992. Pre-Sale Estimate: $30000-$60000. Final Bid: $36500.
