Lot #1. SULPHIDE. Sulphide mold. These are commonly identified as sulphide molds. White porcelain square with an inset circle on either side. One circle has a relief of a goose n it. This is a master mold that would have been used to make mirror mold that the item was cast in. It is not It is not known if these were actually used for sulphides or to produce other toys. 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" x 1". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $65.

Lot #2. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a rearing horse on grass. Above average detail figure. No air bubbles. Set a little high. A scratch and a pit on the back of the marble. Excellent example of this figure. 2-1/8". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $300-$600. Final Bid: $230.

Lot #3. SULPHIDE. . Rare figure of a running buffalo or bison. Excellent detail. No air bubbles. Well centered. The marble surface has some roughness and a couple of tiny chips. It could be lightly buffed to reveal a beauty. 2". Near Mint(-) (8.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1750-$3500. Final Bid: $901.

Lot #4. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a girl in Victorian clothes, kneeling down, holding a croquet mallet in one hand and a croquet ball in the other. Excellent detail. No air bubbles. Well centered. Polished surface. 1-3/4". Pre-Sale Estimate: $300-$600. Final Bid: $260.

Lot #5. SULPHIDE. . Extremely rare figure. Consignor described it as Napolean, I think it is George Washington. Whoever he is, it is very rare. Standing figure of a man in colonial gard, including trenchcoat and colonial hat. One hand at side, one behind his back. Exceptional detail to the figure. No air bubbles. Set slightly off center. Surface has some very minor wear. 1-11/16". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2250-$4500. Final Bid: $1275.

Lot #6. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a running boar. It may be a razorback, the the spine hair is very short on this one. Slightly above average detail. Good silvering. Well centered, no air bubbles. One tiny subsurface moon, a couple of tiny pits. 1-13/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $90.

Lot #7. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a standing woman, commonly identified as Kate Greenaway. Above average detail to the figure. Some minor surface highligh air bubbles on the figure. Set slightly high. Polished surface. 1-5/8". Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $170.

Lot #8. SULPHIDE. . Exremely rare figure. Robin Hood. Man dressed in shirt with fringed collar and hem, calf length pants, and high boots, with a hat. Looks just like Robin Hood. He is standing in front of a post with is legs spread wide apart and his hands clasped behind his back. Exceptional detail to the figure. Set a little high. The very bottom of the left foot broke off when it was inserted and is floating slightly in front of its original position. Very rare example, first time I've ever seen this one. Surface has a couple of very tiny pits. 1-5/8". Mint(-) (9.2). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2000-$4000. Final Bid: $1050.

Lot #9. SULPHIDE. . Figure is the numeral 5 on a disc. Base glass is purple. This is not sun-tinted glass, it is purple. Figure has excellent detail. No air bubbles, it is set slightly high. Tiny chip on the surface. 1-7/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $3000-$6000. Final Bid: $1050.

Lot #10. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a seated Nipper dog. Below average detail. Small air bubble. Set slightly back. Two tiny chips. 1-9/16". Near Mint(+) (8.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $45.

Lot #11. SULPHIDE. . Rare figure. Naked seated man with an odd face. Man is squatting on the ground. His right hand is on his right knee, his left hand is on his chest. Face is carved with a very wide grin, wide open eyes and a bulbous nose. Appears to be bald. You can tell he is naked by the portion of his rear end that is visible. Also, the muscles on his back shoulders (trapezoids?) are very pronounced. Exceptional detail to the figure. No air bubbles. Pretty much well centered in the marble. Pontil on the bottom of the marble is nicely ground. Front is very clean. There is a very tiny flake on the back and a very tiny pit near the pontil. Remarkable! 1-1/4". Near Mint(+) (8.8). Lot #12. SULPHIDE. . Figure is a songbird. Above average detail. Small air bubble on its back. Well centered. This is a hard to find small sulphide marble. Faceted pontil. One tiny subsurface moon, a couple of tiny pinpricks. 29/32". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $120.

Lot #13. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Huge marble. Yellow latticinio core. Outer layer is eight bands. Four are narrow white bands, two are transparent pink bands, one transparent blue band, one transparent green band. A couple of melt spots, a couple of pits, tiny subsurface moon. 2-7/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. Final Bid: $825.

Lot #14. SWIRL. Solid core. Opaque white core. Four very deep lobes. Each has a blue band in the trough. Each peak has a high pink band on it, which accentuates the depth of the lobes. Three sets of yellow strands. Two of those sets are partial, and there is a fourth missing. A sparkle, two pitting areas, some very minor surface wear. Very rare. 2-1/4". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. Final Bid: $525.

Lot #15. SWIRL. Solid core. Opaque yellow solid core. Core has pink strands on it. Outer layer is a cage of yellow strands. Several small subsurface moons, a flake, a couple of tiny chips, some very light wear. 1-31/32". Near Mint(-) (8.1). Pre-Sale Estimate: $175-$350. Final Bid: $95.

Lot #16. SWIRL. Divided core. Three band core. Each is a base of yellow flanked by white. There is a green band on each yellow band, a pink band on the border of each yellow/white edge, a blue band at either edge of each white band. Outer layer is three sets of yellow and white strands. Two melt spots, several pits, some very minor wear. 1-7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $225-$450. Final Bid: $260.

Lot #17. SWIRL. Latticinio core. White latticinio core. The core is only half completed. Outer layer is four bands. Two are pink, blue, yellow and white. Two are pink, green, yellow and white. Base glass is a pale bottle glass green. Small crease, small flake, several tiny subsurface moons, some tiny pits. 1-15/16". Near Mint (8.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $185.

Lot #18. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Transparent very lightly tinted blue base. Core is pale yellow latticinio which appears pale green due to the blue base glass. Outer layer is six bands. Three are blue and yellow, three are pink and yellow. Overall tiny and small subsurface moons, a couple of tiny moons. 1-9/16". Good(+) (7.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $55.

Lot #19. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Single ribbon core swirl. Opaque white ribbon. Each face has the same design. Three yellow strands form the center, flanked by pink bands on either side. The ribbon is edged by blue bands. Outer layer is two sets of white strands, each mirroring one face of the ribbon. Several small chips and some wear. 1-9/16". Near Mint(-) (8.1). Lot #20. SWIRL. Latticinio core. Yellow latticinio core. Outer layer is eight bands. Four are transparent pink, Two are green and pink on yellow, two are blue and pink on white. Double twist. Lot #23. SWIRL. Solid core. Beautiful lobed solid core swirl. Opaque white core. Four lobes. Pink band in each trough. Blue band on two peaks, green band on the other two. Outer layer is a cage of yellow latticinio strands. Tight twist to the core and the outer layer. Several tiny chips or pits. 1-1/2". Near Mint (8.5). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $145.

Lot #24. SWIRL. Divided core. Four band core. Two are orange, black and white. Two are orange, blue and white. Each is a different pattern. Outer layer is four sets of white and yellow strands. A couple of sparkles on one side. 1-1/16". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $30-$60. Final Bid: $24.

Lot #25. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Double ribbon core swirl. One is blue strands on white. Other is pink strands on yellow. The outer layer is a set of white strands mirroring one edge, and a set of yellow strands mirroring the other edge. Some wear on the surface, a few tiny pits and tiny chips. 1-1/4". Near Mint (8.5). Lot #26. SWIRL. Solid core. Hard to categorize. You could either call it a shrunken core Joseph Coat or a naked solid core. Base glass is tinted light green. Core is packed bands of translucent white, green, purple and red. No outer layer. Superb example. 31/32". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $125-$250. Final Bid: $160.

Lot #27. SWIRL. Ribbon core. Single ribbon core swirl. Wide ribbon. Opaque white with pink band on the center and blue edges. Outer layer is two bands of yellow strands mirroring the ribbon faces. Lightly buffed. Pontils and damage remain. 31/32". Pre-Sale Estimate: $45-$90. Final Bid: $27.

Lot #28. SWIRL. Latticinio core. White latticinio core. Outer layer is six bands. They are blue/white, yellow, green, yellow/white, orange, yellow. Outer layer has some annealing fractures on it. Core completely covered by transparent pink and transparent turquoise skin with some large splotches of opaque yellow. One lobe in the core. Faceted pontil. Lot #46. END OF DAY. Panelled onionskin. Large four-panel onionskin with mica. Transparent clear base. White core. Two panels of blue, two of pink. Nice coating of mica. Lot #47. END OF DAY. Cloud. Very nice single-pontil lobed four-panel end of day cloud. Transparent clear base. Yellow core rising about three-quarters of the way up the marble, with some white in it. Two pink panels, and a pink top, two blue panels. The blue panels are lobed, creating the effect almost that the core is a ribbon. Tiny chip and some wear and rubbing. Rare. 1-9/16". Lot #49. END OF DAY. Butterfly Onionskin. Extremely rare marble. Superior example. Four-panel lobed ribbon onionskin with mica, sometimes referred to as a Butterfly Onionskin. Transparent clear base. Opaque white core. Flattened to a fat ribbon. Blue panels on the faces, green panels on the ed ges. A lobe in the center of each face. One is deep, the other very shallow. The shallow side has loads of mica on the face, the deep lobe side has a nice sprinkling of mica on the face. Very nicely ground pontil. Some minor rubbing, two very tiny sparkles, two miniscule flakes. Extremely rare marble. 1-5/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2000-$4000. Final Bid: $1100.

Lot #50. END OF DAY. Joseph Coat. Transparent clear base. Subsurface layer is predominately stretched bands of pale lime bands, with blue, red and green bands stretched in it. Almost no clear space. Lot #60. LUTZ. Indian. Extremely rare marble. Opaque black base. Two bands of color covering about seventy percent of the surface. Left-hand twist. One band is blue and white, one is red and yellow. There are two half-inch long narrow bands of lutz in the yellow. Very, very rare. 13/16". Mint (9.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1000-$2000. Final Bid: $1300.

Lot #70. OTHER HANDMADE. Mica. Shooter red mica, one of the largest I have ever seen. Dark red, almost looks rust, but shine a light through it and you get a gorgeous currant-red color. Nice layer of subsurface mica. Beautifully faceted bottom pontil. In superb shape. Wow! 31/32". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $3000-$6000. Final Bid: $1550.

Lot #92. MISCELLANEOUS. Gutta-Percha. Very rare Gutta-Percha sphere. Gutta-Percha was one of the first natural plastics used. It became popular in the 1850s for use as golf balls, and its used continued into the early 1900s. This sphere was possibly used as a carpet ball. It is clearly handmade (the remnants of a pontil are on the bottom). It is black with designs of green, tan and what appears to be lutz. Lot #182. RAVENSWOOD NOVELTY WORKS. Original package. An original box of twenty five shooter swirls. The box top is missing, only the bottom remains. Five each of blue on white, green on white, red on white, yellow on white, two tone green. Marbles are 15/16" and Mint. Bottom has one split corner. It is very difficult to find Ravenswood packaging in any condition. Pre-Sale Estimate: $275-$550. Final Bid: $280.

Lot #185. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Matthews Art Glass. Opaque Banded Lutz. Mark Matthews calls this color "chocolate orange". Transparent clear base. Chocolate orange opaque background. Two wide white-edged lutz bands. Two sets of three bands, each is a blue band flanked by a teal band. Signed "Matthews 1995". Absolutely gorgeous marble and an older one too. 1-13/16". Mint (9.9). Lot #186. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Matthews Art Glass. One of the Animal Skin series. This is the Snow Leopard. These are made using the Graal technique, pioneered by Orrefors Glass in the early 1900s. Each design is a replica of an actual animal skin permanently housed at the Smithsonian. From the artist's original photographs of the animal pelt to the masking and crafting of the sphere, this is an exceptional example. Signed "Matthews 1998". 2-3/8". Mint (9.9). Floating on a layer of clear above the olive and below the surface are six single ribbon canes and six latticinio cased double ribbon canes. Beautiful marble. Signed "Matthews 1997". 2-1/8". Lot #193. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Rolf and Genie Wald. Very rare Wald marble. Opaque black base. There are three bunches of irridescent grapes surrounding the name Wald which is in the marble in script writing using gold lutz!! Gold lutz helix on the back. Dated "94". Very rare. Lot #194. CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Geoffrey Beetem Designs. Large Stardust V-lobe. Transparent clear base. Red ribbon. Gold and blue dichroic floating above the ribbon. Ribbon is edged by two green and pink bands. Signed "G. Beetem 99c" (interesting variant on his signature). This was the first of this color series produced. 2-1/16". Mint (9.9).
