Lot of fifty five swirls or one solid glass block, you decide. Fifty five swirls fused together. This apparently was part of a box of 5/8" swirls, presumably one of the one hundred count boxes, that was in a fire and the contents were fused together by the heat. Huge marble from near an end of the cane. Transparent clear base. Partial white latticinio core, rising about one third of the way up the marble. Remainder of the core is tiny air bubbles. Outer layer is four bands. Two are pink and blue on white, two are pink and green on yellow. One sparkle. It is almost impossible to find swirls this large in Mint condition. 2-1/8". Mint(-) (9.0). White latticinio core. Outer layer is three purple bands and three yellow strands. One side has a flat melt area where the marble was laid against a metal instrument or tool while hot. The flat area carries the reverse relief of "3/8" and carboning that was on a piece of metal. Probably the marble was laid down on a 1-3/8" or 3/8" caliper or forming tool that had "3/8" embossed in it. Some additional roughness on the rest of the surface. 1-3/16". Near Mint(-) (8.0). TP Lot #55.MISCELLANEOUS. Drawing.

Extremely rare item. This came from an English estate. Pen and ink drawing of two boys shooting marbles while two girls look on. It is unsigned. The agent for the estate attributes the drawing to Francis Wheatley (1747-1801). There is no question that the artist of this piece is English and the style appears to me to be prior to 1850. The drawing is framed in an exquisite period frame of burled walnut with a gilt inset edge. The backing board has the header from the London Times April 16, 1877 pasted to it along with a two line death notice (presumably from that issue). I am unable to ascertain the attribution of the artist, so I make no guarantees about it. The agent is an art collector who specializes in English artists of the 1700s and early 1800s, so his claim is plausible. Exceptional and rare piece. The drawing is an oval, about 5" x 4". All Mint. TP Lot #56.MISCELLANEOUS. Game board.

Antique English solitaire board. Mahogany. Typical thirty-three hole configuration. It is also painted for German Tactics: One green quadrant, black lines between holes to indicate paths of movement. Concave groove around rim to hold discarded marbles. Finish is in great shape. Originally had three bun feet on the bottom, they are now missing. Excellent display board or game board. Holes accept marbles about 1" and smaller. 13". Mint. Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. Final Bid: $120.

TP Lot #57.MISCELLANEOUS. Game.

Tower game. Super tin game. Metal tower, 11" tall. Metalwork is pierced with a very nice design. Marbles are place in the hole at the top, they travel down a spiral ramp and then ring a bell before exiting one of the eight holes at the bottom. From there they enter a circular board with holes numbered 1 to 20. Board is about 12" diameter. Excellent paint decoration to the game. Some rubbing of the paint. Based on the design of the game, I feel that it is likely Swiss or Italian, rather than the more typical German. Very early 1900s, possibly late 1800s. Near Mint(+). Pre-Sale Estimate: $200-$400. French trade card. Front depicts three French boys playing marbles and is printed "il est honnete mai il a la passion de jeu" "Fil au Petit Rieur Marque G. M.". Reverse is an advertisement for a ladies boutique in Paris. Tiny water stain at upper right corner. Very nice item. My guess is that it is around 1900. 3-1/2" x 2-1/2". Mint(-). TP Lot #59.MISCELLANEOUS. Paperweight.

Superb sulphide paperweight. Transparent clear paperweight contains a sulphide medallion. The medallion commemorates the disinterment of Napoleon's remains from St. Helena and their transfer to the Church of the Invalides in Paris in 1850. The lower portion of the medallion is inscribed "Translation des Bestes Mortals de L'Empereur Napoleon a l'Hotel des Invalides 15 Dec. 1850". French manufacture. An eagle gripping an olive crown in its beak. The rising sun with the "N" in it. To the left is the emperor's crown and medal on a pillow and the right a battle helmet and sword. Superior piece from the mid 1800s. Annealing fracture around the rim of the sulphide medallion, typical of this type. A must-have for sulphide collectors. 2-1/2" x 2". Extremely rare No. 3 Cardinal Red box! Contains twenty five 25/32" to 13/16" Cardinal Reds. All Mint to Mint(-). One half of the right hand edge is missing, the remainder is still attached to its corner. Very minor water stain at the right edge. Bottom is fine. This box came out of an estate in Texas. English game set. Light wood solitaire board with thirty two bullet mold marbles. Marbles are 11/16" and Mint. Very nice bullet mold marbles, each has a light green tint to it. Board is light wood, probably tulip. Thirty three hole configuration. Nice finish to it. About 7" diameter. She was given this game set as a child in England about seventy years ago, and it is one of the few things she brought to the States with her as a young child. The set is probably from the 1930s. Magnifying glass with a glass cane handle. The handle is 4" long and 1" diameter. It is a clear rod with a single pink ribbon core in it. Magnifier is glass and 2-1/4" diameter. A "Johns-Mansville 475" fiberglass ingot. This is one of the marbles produced by Johns-Mansville Corporation for use in producing fiberglass. These ingots were first used in studio art glass by Dominic Labino and Harvey Littleton, and found to be optimal for use in small studio glass furnaces. Earliest contemporary marble makers used these as their base metal. This particular example was pictured in Figure 8, page 15 of Contemporary Marbles and Related Art Glass (Mark Block, Schiffer Publishing 2000). 29/32". Near Mint(-). Limited Edition set of twelve marbles. "Four Seasons Collection". Signed and numbered. This is the Four Seasons series produced as limited edition by California Glass Studios in 1999. Each season is represented by three marbles. Nina Paladino sought to recreate the Pacific Ocean as it appeared out her window in each season. Each marble is signed and number within the set and series. Each of these marbles is signed "CGS" and then either "1-3/4-12", "2-3/4-12" or "3-3/4-12". This is the fourth set of the twelve sets produced. Each marbles is 1-7/8" to 1-15/16" diameter. Each is Mint (9.9). Accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity.
