Figure is handpainted dog (dalmation). Excellent detail. Black body markings, ears, eyebrows, eyes, nostrils and mouth. Green grass. Super painting. No air bubbles. Well centered. TP Lot #58.NON-GLASS HANDMADE. Handle knob.

Handpainted china knob from the handle of a cane or parasol. Blue glaze. Painted with a scene of a French gentleman with a mandolinserenading a lady. Exceptional gold borders with filigree. Excellent painting on this one. Bottom has a hole for the handle. French. Exceptional example. 1-3/16". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $100-$200. Final Bid: $80.

 

TP Lot #59.NON-GLASS HANDMADE. Clay.

Glazed gray pottery. This marble was acquired from a Dutch antique dealer and was dug at a Holland site. In my opinion, it is Dutch, not German. It does not look like any German marbles I've seen. 31/32". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $30-$60. Final Bid: $2.

 

TP Lot #60.MISCELLANEOUS. Broom holder.

Metal broom holder with a handpainted pipe clay marble as the operative device. Cast metal holder, painted gold. Cast on the back "Pat Jan 101893". Channel has a 7/8" handpainted unglazed pipe clay china. Purple and green stripes on it. You mount the holder to the wall and then the pressure of the marble holds the handle in place. In great shape. About 2" x 2". Mint. Pre-Sale Estimate: $50-$100. Final Bid: $42.

 

TP Lot #61.MISCELLANEOUS. Bowl.

Handmade Italian bowl. Clear with alternating latticinio and lutz-edge pink bands. Six crimps. Superb piece. Probably from the 1950s. It is probably Venini or Salviati. 3" diameter, 1-1/2 high. Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $75-$150. Final Bid: $40.

Standard size carpet ball. Glazed. White background with a transfer of lines to make it appear to be crackled old marble (the stone). A couple of very tiny glazed missing spots. Rare type. 3-1/4". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $150-$300. Final Bid: $75.

 

TP Lot #63.TRANSITIONAL. Ground pontil.

Huge transitional. Transparent very lightly tinted blue with faint white swirls. Loads of air bubbles in it. Nicely ground pontil. A couple of tiny chips, several blown air holes. TP Lot #72.CHRISTENSEN AGATE COMPANY. Hand gathered.

This marble is extremely rare, and it is a mystery. It is a opalescent semi-opaque yellow. It is hand gathered with an exceptional "9" on the top and a nice seam on the bottom. It is not M.F. Christensen, because of the opalescence. That leaves us with either Akro or Christensen Agate. In my opinion, it is Christensen Agate, due to the coloring and the air bubbles inside it. Either way it is extremely rare. In perfect shape. 23/32". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. Final Bid: $250.

Open and Examine Before purchasing". Contains twelve small dyed clays and a 1-1/16" Akro slag. The box bears a mark on a flap that it was made in Buffalo. Probably 1920s. These are very difficult to find. I remember that a group of them showed up about twenty years ago and those are the only ones I have ever heard of. It may very well be that the box was packed this way, as none of the marbles has been played with. The consignor is not a marble collector. You would think that if the box were filled with the child's winnings that some would have marks on them, but none do. That is why I think it may be all original. "Man in the Moon"limited edition. Opaque blue sphere with white cane five-pointed stars all over it. In the center of the field of stars is an orange crescent moon with red lips, black and white eye and black eyebrow murrini cane. TP Lot #153.CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Ro Purser.

"Moon and Earth Pictosphere".Superb tour-de-force of modern marble making. Encompasses several techniques in one marble. Transparent clear base with a sulphide man in the moon in the center. One side of the marble has an opaque blue subsurface layer conta stars, crescent moon, Saturn, comets and the Big Dipper on the exterior of that layer. The interior of that layer has silhouette canes of stars, crescent moon, Saturn, comets, the planet Earth and an alien head. Exterior has a"RO" and "2" signature cane.Exceptional sphere. About 3-1/2" diameter, the size of a carpet ball. Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $425-$850. Final Bid: $360.

TP Lot #159.CONTEMPORARY HANDMADE. Nadine Macdonald.

Handmade and handpainted glazed china. Pinwheel design at either pole, checkerboard pattern around equator. Each pinwheel is eight wide fins and eight narrow arrow fins. Red center. Checkerboard is green and red. Signed "NM 2000". Nadine hand rolls and creates her own china blanks and handpaints them herself. She only made one in this design. 1-3/16". Mint (9.9). A contemporary marble collection entitled "Marble Makers Unite". This collection consists of donated marbles from over thirty contemporary marble collectors (see list below). The collection is housed in a handmade wood box. The box top has an engraved plaque reading "New York Firefighters 9/11 Fund 'Marble Makers Unite'".The proceeds from this lot will be donated in total to the New York Firefighters 9/11 Fund.
