TP Lot #1.SULPHIDE. .

Exceptional colored glass sulphide. Wide spread-winged owl in purple glass. Excellent detail to the figure. The wings are spread very wide. No cracks or missing pieces, which is rare in one this large. No air bubbles on it. Well-centered. Very tiny subsurface moon and several tiny rough spots. I'll have to grade it below 9.0 because of this, but it views much better than that. Very rare marble!!! 1-9/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2000-$4000. Current High Bid: $1050.

White latticinio core. Outer layer is six bands. Three are blue on white, two are pink on yellow, last is yellow (pink is missing). Tiny subsurface moon and a sparkle. TP Lot #6.SWIRL. Ribbon core.

Gorgeous example. Double ribbon core. One is white with pink, yellow and blue bands. Other is yellow with pink, yellow and green bands. TP Lot #8.SWIRL. Divided core.

Large and very complex marble. Core is four complex bands separated by four narrow bands. The complex bands are each flanked by a yellow and white narrow band. Two have a blue center, two have a green center. Each is separated by a narrow white band. Outer layer is four bands of pink on white, edged by yellow. Some unmelted sand in the marble. Rare marble. Three-layer swirl. Core is yellow strands. Middle layer is a double ribbon. Each is a white ribbon with pink and blue bands. Outer layer is nine narrow bands. Two each of white, yellow, green, brown (rare) and one blue. Another way to look at this marble is as a double ribbon encasing a latticinio core. One small chip and a melt pit. 21/32". Superior four-lobe cloud from near an end of the cane. Transparent clear base. Opaque white core. Stretched splotches of pink and stretched dots of blue. Four very deep lobes. Very nice texture and three-dimensional feel to the core. Faceted pontil. A little area of "bubbly" glass near the bottom, indicative of an end of cane. No damage. Several tiny air holes. 29/32". Rare uncased onionskin. Transparent blue glass filled with stretched bands of opaque white and with stretched bands of opaque white on the surface. Sort of a cross between an onionskin and a slag. The plaque is engraved "Al Backer Jewelry Trophy - 1954 V.F.W. Tourney 3rd - Bert Hughes". TP Lot #183.SWIRL. Ribbon core.

Outstanding ribbon core swirl. Transparent clear base. Core is a single ribbon of yellow with green bands on one side, pink on the other. Outer layer is very complex. Two pair of white strands mirroring the ribbon faces. The ribbon edges have a band of opaque white, faced on one side with pink and one side with blue, rotated edge on. The marble is triple twisted. Another way to look at this is that it is a naked single ribbon core. The ribbon center is a yellow band, with white strands floating above it, flanked by the two wide bands. Either way, it is extremely rare. Faceted pontil. Small subsurface moon. 7/8". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. Current High Bid: $345.

This is an end of cane marble from the same cane as the marble in Lot 186. Rare three-layer swirl. No yellow core strands left. The middle core ribbons are misshapen. TP Lot #188.SWIRL. Ribbon core.

Absolutely stunning and extremely rare folded first off cane swirl. Double ribbon core swirl. Each ribbon is opaque white with bands of yellow, navy blue, baby blue, pink and brown on them. Outer layer is a cage of yellow strands. Rare coloring. The marble was folded over in half when it was made, creating a loop or diaper fold pattern. The looping of one ribbon created a small porthole through it, creating a lens effect to see the other ribbon. A "road and tunnel" type effect. Extremely rare!!! Faceted pontil. TP Lot #193.END OF DAY. Panelled onionskin.

One of the rarest onionskins I have ever seen. Three-panel onionskin. Transparent clear base. Each panel is about the same width and each is slightly lobed. One is stretched yellow, green, pink and "oxblood". Another is stretched white, yellow, pink, blue and turquoise. These two have a light sprinkling of mica. The third panel is mica. Heavy mica. Extremely rare. One very tiny chip, really a large pit. I have to grade it below 9.0, but it views much better than that. 13/16". Near Mint(+) (8.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1500-$3000. Four-panel onionskin. Left twist. Transparent clear base. Two panels are stretched white, pink, blue and green. Two panels are yellow with mica on them. One of the yellow panels has a green band at the edge of it (technically, this is a five-panel). Nice mica. Super looking marble. Small chip and a tiny chip. 27/32". Near Mint(+) (8.7). Rare example. Transparent clear base. Subsurface layer is stretched bands and strands of white, red, blue, orange, yellow, black, green. The green bands are fiery aventurine. The blue bands have tiny seed bubbles on them. One piece of oven brick in the marble. Stunning colorful marble. 1-1/16". Mint (9.9). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1500-$3000. Current High Bid: $825.

 

TP Lot #196.SWIRL. Ribbon core.

One of the rarest ribbon core swirls you will ever find. Naked single ribbon core swirl. The glass on one side is transparent clear. The glass on the other side is transparent emerald green. The ribbon is a complex pattern of white, yellow, pink, blue and turquoise bands. Several tiny melt spots, but no damage. This marble is extremely rare. A very small group of these appeared about ten or twelve years ago and they have been virtually impossible to find since then. Exceptional opportunity. There was probably just one cane made of these. 27/32". Mint (9.6). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1500-$3000. Current High Bid: $1850.

As rare as the previous marble is, this one is even rarer. This marble is the first one off the cane that the marble in Lot 197 came from. Flower type end of cane. Base glass is transparent emerald green. Yellow latticinio core. Outer layer is a cage of white strands. Very well formed. The design shoots out the top of the marble. Faceted pontil. A melt line, several pits, a tiny sparkle. Very rare marble!! 7/8". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $2000-$4000. Current High Bid: $1100.

 

TP Lot #199.END OF DAY. Joseph Coat.

Unbelievably rare uncased Joseph Coat. Transparent clear base. Surface is covered by stretched bands of bright colors. Red, orange, blue, yellow, light green, lavender, white. No outer layer of clear. Several tiny pits. Incredibly rare marble and gorgeous! This is the best example that I have ever seen in anywhere near this size. 1-5/16". Mint(-) (9.0). TP Lot #200.SWIRL. Latticinio core.

Rare latticinio core swirl. Core is alternating white, yellow and red strands. Outer layer is four bands. Two are red and green, edged by white. One black and yellow, edged by white. One black, orange and blue, edged by white. Thick outer casing of clear. The outer casing implies that it was intended to be a three-layer, but the outer layer was not put on. Rarest of this series that we've had in the last few auctions. In great shape. Stunning, superb and rare marble. 1-1/16". Mint (9.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $1500-$3000. Current High Bid: $825.

Rare latticinio core swirl. Base glass is tinted light blue. Core is alternating white, yellow and red strands. Three band outer layer. Two are white, blue, red, yellow and light green, in slightly differing patterns. Other is yellow, white and light green. One tiny pinprick, one melt glass line. Exceptional marble, in superior condition. 1-9/16". Mint (9.7). Pre-Sale Estimate: $3000-$6000. Current High Bid: $1650.

 

TP Lot #202.SWIRL. Peppermint.

Extremely rare, large peppermint with mica. Transparent clear base. Opaque white subsurface layer. Two blue panels filled with mica. Three bands of pink on either side. An unbelievable looking marble and in remarkable shape, given its size. A few micro sparkles, pits and pinpricks. This great marble was once in a Running Rabbit Auction and Danny graded it as a 9.2, so we will retain the same grading. I have never seen one in this size that was Mint. 29/32". Mint(-) (9.2). TP Lot #203.MISCELLANEOUS. Game board.

Antique English game board. Round board. Eighty-one holes in a square format nine by nine. Red diagonal lines between each hole, black horizontal and vertical lines between each hole. Holes at either end have a green crenellated edge painted on them. Board is mahogany. Three bun feet. The feet are either replacements or were reattached, as the screws are new. The edge has an old repair where a piece was knocked off. Two additional cracks on the edge. Beautiful original finish.Extremely rare board, I know of only one other one in this pattern. 13" diameter. Accomodates marbles up to about 3/4". Mint(-) (9.0). Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. TP Lot #204.SWIRL. Latticinio core.

Huge marble. Yellowish orange latticinio core swirl. Outer layer is six bands. Three are blue and pink on white, three are green and pink on yellow. The core encases a teardrop air bubble. There is an annealing fracture from in the clear layer between the bands and the latticinio, caused by the size of the marble. It runs about one-third of the way around. One very tiny flake. Some pinpricks, typical of this size. Very hard size to find. 2-3/8" (over 2-1/4). Near Mint(+) (8.8). Pre-Sale Estimate: $500-$1000. Current High Bid: $290.
