One pair of yellow strands has a blue strand in the center. Surface has several small chips, pitting, rubbing and some haze. Germany, circa 1870-1915. 2-1/16". Good (7.6). Lot #6. SWIRL. Divided core. Huge and rare divided core swirl. Very rare four-layer swirl. Core is three bands of pink on yellow. Next layer is three sets of white strands, mirroring the core bands. Next layer is three bands of pink on white, mirroring the spaces in the inner core. Outer layer is three sets of yellow strands, mirroring the bands in the layer immediately below. Reverse twist top. Lot #21. SWIRL. Ribbon. Extremely rare marble. This is two flattened solid core swirl rods fused together to create a double ribbon. Each ribbon is a flat four panel solid core surrounded by four sets of strands. The ribbons are two panels of pink and blue on white, and two panels of pink and green on yellow. Each is surrounded by a cage of two sets of white strands and two sets of yellows strands. Each of these assemblies was flattened encased in clear. Then the two clear rods were fused together to create a rod with two ribbons in it. Extremely rare construction. Faceted pontil. Melt spot, small flake, tiny chip and tiny subsurface moon. Lot #189. MISCELLANEOUS. Sugar tamper. Antique German ribbon swirl cane formed into a sugar tamper. Transparent clear rod with a twisted cane that is a single ribbon of white with pink strands on one side and turquoise strands on the other. Sugar tampers were used in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century to break up granulated sugar in a bowl or shaker. Very rare type. 5-1/2" long. Mint. Lot #192. MISCELLANEOUS. Game board. Very unusual large solitaire board. This is a standard thirty three hole antique English solitaire board. It is a dense wood, the consignor felt it was coromandel, a wood from India. Gorgeous piece of wood, excellent patina to it. This board is unusual because the holes are drilled all the way through the bottom of the board. This allows you to put larger marbles on the board than if the holes were not drilled all the way through. Sits on three feet. The board is just over 12" wide. The holes are 3/4" tapering down to 1/2" hole through the bottom. To understand the workmanship and care that went into this board, if you turn it over, the bottom holes are beveled on the bottom of the board. Incredible. Davis Handmade Marbles was founded by Jim Davis, and is now run by his six sons. Jim Davis was born in WV in 1930.He started working in a glass plant, in 1946, making hand-crafted glassware. While still working at the plant, he opened his own hand-cut glassware shop in 1967, working in the evenings to fill the orders. He began making marbles in 1990. Jim suffered a stroke in 2000, and his six sons now all make marbles under the family name. Pre-Sale Estimate: $60-$125. Final Bid: $65.
